About Us

Mission Statement:

The National Alliance on Mentally Illness Contra Costa (NAMI CC) is a nonprofit, volunteer, grassroots organization. Our purpose is to:

  • Support families of individuals with mental illnesses.
  • Educate families and the public about mental illness.
  • Advocate for improved treatment and treatment facilities.
  • Fight stigma and discrimination.
  • Support legislation that helps those with neurobiological brain disorders.
  • Improve private and public sector policies.
  • Provide more housing with support services.
  • Increase outreach to people with mental illnesses and their families.

Our affiliate began in 1978 when a group of families met to find ways to improve the lives of their mentally ill loved ones. Since that time our membership and influence have continued to grow.

Dual Recovery Anonymous

Dual Recovery Anonymous is a 12 Step self-help program that is based on the principals of the Twelve Steps and the experiences of men and women in recovery with a dual diagnosis. The DRA program helps us recover from both our chemical dependency and our emotional or psychiatric illness by focusing on relapse prevention and actively improving the quality of our lives. In a community of mutual support, we learn to avoid the risks that lead back to alcohol and drug use as well as reducing the symptoms of our emotional or psychiatric illness.
